Toilday, the 5th of Desnus, 4715
We are a long the shoreline, following the river westward, towards Redlake Fort. We divide our equipment, and I take a parallel path to them as we head towards the fort. Beauxie comes back to us and keeps closer.
We spot the keep. The Palisade wall is 20’ tall with sharpened wooden tops. It lies around the moat as we approach from the east. Where the barbarian abuts the river, there’s a dam. These changes are not part of the map of Redlake fort.
I scout around the moat and it is dry. There are 30+ medium-size bipeds and a lot of smaller things that seem to be either bipedal or quadrapedal. The count is quite rough, but it does make me wonder if the quadrabeps are really orcs, or more specifically 2 orcs at once.
When I peak up, in the main hall, a dog-sized severed hand comes at me. The thing is quite agile (dexterous); but while I get my own licks in, it kicks my butt. I manage to get away; and leave it behind but it is sorely a close call.
I search out the rest of the fort. It’s rather confusing. The three-story cathedral has someone on each level (large), the Keep has a weird effect on it, but I pass through it without trouble. Inside I sense more large creatures and almost an equal number of large quadrapeds.
There are several giants wandering in the open areas. 6 medium bipeds in the barbricans (atop the walls). Most of the smaller extrusions are empty.
I come back and we sort out equipment, gird our loins and set off. We go around the fort, coming up on the quietest side of the keep without incident.
I leave them and go to the dam. Standing in the dry center between the lake and the moat, I knock one of the wooden plugs out, cracking its frame. Then I punch the other one. This was, perhaps not the best idea, as I flow out with the water. I manage to hold on by the grace of my feet. The water starts to flood the dry moat.
The party starts hearing hollering and yelping in general screams of panic. When I come back, I warn that I started a flood but I did not destroy the dam.
The party holds onto a rope, and I lead them into the earth (Seamus uses the Wand of Burrowing). They push their way through the earth in an effortless manner. It’s a bit claustrophobic, but easy to move. When they get to bedrock, it feels more like pudding to move, but they manage. The tunnel they are creating collapses behind them.
They move through the water table and then we start angling back upwards. I check ahead a bit and figure out we’re inside. The 3 large individuals seem to be 30-40’ behind us. We prepare for battle, knowing that the three behind the door are doing the same.
